Born and raised in Hanoi city, artist Ta Thi Thanh Tam only paints about the Vietnamese countryside. Her favourite medium is traditionally Vietnamese materials - lacquer and Dzo (handmade) paper. Thanh Tam's paintings portray characters with barefoot - a typical feature of the life of the Vietnamese countryside in the old days.
The characters in Thanh Tam's paintings all have eyes and hands that seem to speak, exuding the simplicity and warmth of the villagers. She said that each painting is a story about the countryside, it is the innocent story of girls playing jump rope, the animal lying on the back of buffaloes playing flutes, the peaceful scene of mothers carrying babies to the market... Thanh Tam often paints about a certain group of characters such as children, young women... When painting about children, she depicts the innocence, joy, and naivety in paintings. Young women who are somewhat shy, and still have something of a childlike quality. Through Thanh Tam's paintings, one could see the sensitivity in her soul.
